Toronto, June 19, 2008
The Toronto Burlesque Festival Committee announced today the official events schedule and guest star lineup for the first ever Toronto Burlesque Festival taking place July 11th through 13th.
The weekend kicks off with a cocktail reception and gallery exhibit called Ready for Take Off! The venue for this opening soiree is the Melody and Art Bars at the Gladstone Hotel. Local artists will exhibit selections of their work that best reflect the theme, and Toronto designers have donated beautiful custom-made bras for silent auction. All proceeds will go to Boobalicious, a local organization that raises funds for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer. Local burlesque favourites will be on-hand to warm up the crowd. Look forward to performances from Sonya "Jezebel"Cote, St. Stella, Maria Juana of The Harlettes, Flarington King, and Strip Search winner Miss dd Starr. The Cocktail Hour will be presided over by the delectable La Minouche of Toronto troupe, Les Coquettes. Live music by Venus Lakes and The Professor, and The Wet Spots!
The Opening Gala takes place at the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom, immediately following the Cocktail Hour. The event will be hosted by the fabulous Majenta Butterfly, and will feature performances by headliner Michelle L'Amour (Miss Exotic World 2005), Damiana Dolce, Nina Arsenault, Demonica de Morte, CoCo La Creme, and a bevy of local and internationally acclaimed Burlesque Beauties! There will be a house band, Alistair Christl and the Swinging Chandeliers, and a Dance After Party with DJ Scottie P.
Saturday night, the party moves to Little Italy for The Burlesque Ball at The Mod Club. Hosted by New York Boylesque sensation Tigger (Mr. Exotic World 2006), the sensational lineup includes guest stars Michelle L'Amour, Dirty Martini (Miss Exotic World 2004), Penny Starr Jr, (1st Runner Up, Miss Exotic World 2004), pole dancing dynamos Gravity Plays Favourites, and local favourites, Skin Tight Outta Sight, Les Coquettes, Coco Framboise, Mina LaFleur, Miss Mitzy Cream, The Harlettes, Lena Love and the list goes on! The House Band for the evening is Blue Mercury Coupe.
Burlesque fans can then nurse their hangovers in the Queen West area at the Sunday afternoon Tiki Brunch. The Cadillac Lounge will be home to an all-star lineup featuring performances from Dirty Martini, Shane MacKinnon, Donnarama, The Cinnamon Hearts, Majenta Butterfly, and from event hosts The Wet Spots. The event also features Surf Rock band the Von Drats.
