Our new theme is “Tassels Without Borders,” as The Toronto Burlesque Festival brings you the best in the international burlesque scene! Last year's Festival starred Miss Exotic World Burlesque Hall of Fame Title Holders, Michelle L'amour (Chicago), Dirty Martini (NYC), Tigger! (NYC) and Penny Starr Jr. (LA). The Festival also featured Burlesque Artists from across Canada and the cream of the crop of Toronto's alternative performing arts scene! We were featured in The Globe and Mail and also on the cover of The Toronto Sun's 24 Hours paper. For 2009, we continue with amazing performances over FOUR nights and a brand new line-up of workshops for our "Burlesque University," where seasoned performers and laypeople alike can learn the tricks of the trade from the very best artists in the scene! We are also partnering with Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School for a burlesque retrospective Art Show at The Gladstone Hotel. Furthermore, the Festival will feature a photography and burlesque costume exhibit and will include fundraising activities for local charities. New this year will be a Burlesque Marketplace, where local artists can vend their burlesque-related crafts and wares!
